homework for grade 5/ nov. 25th
Mishna: The children received their Mishna CD's today. They each signed that they received it and were told to keep them in pristine condition throughout the year. The purpose of the CD is to allow them to review the mishnayot we learn at home and to encourage them to learn by heart as much as possible. The songs we learn are also on the CD.
We are presently working on mishna aleph in masechet brachot.
We will complete it tomorrow.
The children are going to be tested on the mishna, understanding it and knowing the first 5 lines by heart ( the rest by heart will be bonus) and on the introduction we did which included the six nesiim and the passing down of the Oral Torah from Moshe to Yehoshua, etc.... They have it in their workbooks, plus handouts next WED. DEC. 3rd, B"H.
Naturally we will review beforehand.
Ivrit: Remember my Ivrit group , you have a vocabulary quiz on the words we wrote down on Friday and reviewed today in the handout I gave you.
Hope you enjoy a nice restful looong weekend, wishing you an early Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin

Chumash: Review the old pesukim in perek 24 of 15-27. There will be a test on them next WEd. Dec. 3, B"H. We are progressing so beautifully that I don't want them to have too many pesukim to be tested on. We are presently on pesukim 33-37. So we will have a test on 15-27 meanwhile. We will review them tomorrow and Monday.
Ivrit: The children made beautiful menus and today they practiced skits for their restaurants. I would like them to learn as much as they can of the script by heart for tomorrow and they should bring in the props they made up to bring w/ their group.
Wishing you all a restful nice looong weekend and an early Shabbat Shalom,

weekly bulletin for grade 6/ nov. 21st
Nov.21st
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have been working hard in our Judaics program in Kita Heh and despite the shorter week, (no Wed.), we have accomplished a lot. In Mishna after learning some historical background and skills we need, we are learning our first mishna. It is mishna aleph in masechet brachot. Since the Bonayich program believes in memorization as the first step to learning the mishna, I am encouraging the children to learn by heart. However, because it is a long one, we are doing it part by part. In Ivrit we continue with our topic of food and work in Chaverim B'Ivrit. In Chumash we are continue to learn about Moshe in Egypt and have studied his killing the Egyptian who was beating a Jew by using Hashem's holy name , but only after he "saw" that there would not be any future "ger" (convert) from that person, (Rashi). The children are still continuing their Egyptian newspaper project in our once a week computer lesson. I can't wait to see the finished products. They look really good. In Navi, we have started to learn about the first "shofet" judge, Otniel Ben Kenaz and his defeating the enemy of Israel, Kushan Risha'taim.
Today we will come home again with a riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.
Please remind them to do "kebaba."
It was a real pleasure to meet with you on Wed. and speak about your children's progess. Please don't ever hesitate to discuss with me any concerns you may have.
Please continue to check the blog for important updates.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom,

weekly bulletin for grade 3/ nov. 21st
Nov.21st
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have been working hard in our Judaic program. In Chumash we are continuing with the story of Eliezer and Rivka. We are still learning about Eliezer in Rivka's house after meeting her brother, Lavan, (this is one looong perek! So we will be here for a while). Not all the Chumash tests have come back to me signed and corrected.
In Ivrit we are learning vocabulary of some different foods. The children filled in "Menu" worksheets and next week will make and design their own menus for their own "restaurants." We have our vocab. test on these words this Friday. The children heard another regular unsimplified Hebrew story this week. This time it was (one of my favorites), "Ets HaNadiv" ( the Giving Tree). They paid beautiful attention and afterwards were able to write a few sentences about the story. It looks like this is really working out very well and enriching their Hebrew experience.
So despite our "shorter" week, (no Wed.), we really accomplished a lot.
Today your children will come home with another riveting Dvar Torah to share at the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you. They should also decorate their parashat hashavua page for our "yofi shel parasha" corner.
Please remind them to do "kebaba."
Please remember that they should always review the pesukim we do in Chumash at home each night for about 10 minutes.
It was a real pleasure to meet with you on Wed. and speak about your children's progress. Please don't ever hesitate to discuss with me any concerns you may have.
Please try to see the blog regularly for important updates.
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin
PLEASE NOTE: Please ask your child for all quizzes/tests. These need to be corrected , if possible, and signed and returned the next day. Thank you!!

HOMEWORK GRADE 3/ NOV.20TH
It was wonderful meeting and speaking last night at the conferences. Thank you all for attending.
Homework for tomorrow: Study for the vocabulary quiz on food. I sent home 1. a review sheet that we did in class today and 2. A review sheet for parents who would like to "quiz" their child , but cannot read Hebrew, please ask your child for it, they each took one.
Today we had an all Ivrit day. In addition to reviewing the vocabulary words, writing sentences with them and conjugating the verb "want " as in want to eat/drink, the children also heard another story in Hebrew, the Hebrew version of the "Giving Tree" (one of my personal favorites, what a story!!) and they are in the process of writing a few sentences talking about the story.
I will be putting my bulletin here , as well, as sending a hard copy home tomorrow. Please ask your child for it.

weekly bulletin for grade 5/nov.14th
Nov.14th
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have been working hard in our Judaics program in Kita Heh. In Mishna we learned about the six Nesiim (heads of the Sanhedrin=Jewish Supreme court) and are concluding a chapter on Hillel and Shamai. The children are in the midst of a mini project making a poster of one of the Nisiim they need to become an "expert" on. In Ivrit we learned the vocabulary for different meals, foods, restaurant words and have role played a restaurant using menus the children made in Ivrit. In Navi we completed perek aleph and have been tested on it. The children had a mini project of preparing signs for the different cities we learned about in the Navi. In Chumash we have completed an in depth study of the first 10 pesukim of perek beth and had our test today. Here, too, the children are busy with writing their Egyptian newspaper to report on what they have learned.
Today we will come home again with a riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.
Please remind them to do "kebaba."

weekly bulletin update for grade 3/Nov. 14th
Nov.14th
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have been working hard in our Judaic program. In Chumash we are continuing with the story of Eliezer and Rivka. Eliezer is now in Rivka's house and will relate the whole story of how he comes to be there in order to show Rivka's family that this is all from Hashem and meant to be. The children have learned another song , thanks to Rabbi Elbaz taking the time to come in and teach them. This song was from last week's parasha of Lech Lecha when Hashem promised the land of Israel to Avraham Avinu. They sing it beautifully. We had a Chumash test this past week . Please be sure to ask your child to see his/her test and to sign it and return it to me.
In Ivrit we are learning the rules that help us learn successfully from the Tal Am series. We also started something new. Once a week I will read a story to the children in regular Hebrew (not simplified), from a regular children's book and after reading, the children write a few sentences telling what happened in the story in Ivrit. We did it for the first time this week and it was very successful. They listened intently knowing they would not understand every word and yet were able to follow the story line and even write one or two sentences about the story. They even asked if we could do it again . For now it will be once a week.
We continue to work on learning to read Rashi script and I am very proud of how nicely the children are progressing. We are reading actual Rashi's in Chumash already!
Today your children will come home with another riveting Dvar Torah to share at the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you. They should also decorate their parashat hashavua page for our "yofi shel parasha" corner.

GRADE 3/ NOV.12
BOY, WE HAD AN EVENTFUL DAY TODAY!
We had art, as usual, and then at 3:00 we went to the upper school to see their amazing Mitvah Fair. Wow! We were in awe of how beautiful it all was and enjoyed it so much. As one student said, "this was the best day ever!" The children were very excited by it. After that we returned to our class to a special biweekly lesson from the Israeli Shlicha Libby. She taught us about Yitzchak Rabin z"l and we made posters about Peace and painted /colored doves. Oh, we did manage to squeeze in a Chumash lesson in between all of this. So the only homework is to review in Chumash and try to do Kebaba. The pesukim are 21-27.
The weekly vocabulary quiz will be on Tuesday of next week instead of this Friday since the children will only be getting their new words tomorrow.
