Dec. 19th
Shalom Dear Parents,
This has been an exciting week in Kita Heh. In Chumash we have completed perek beth and were tested on it, (actually finishing the test on Friday). In computers we are working on Moshe's diary and the previous project of the Egyptian newspapers came out beautifully! The children really showed a lot of what they learned in Chumash. This is another way of assessing their knowledge of the material taught. In Ivrit we got our tests back and they should have come home to be signed and returned. We reviewed and reinforced the Hebrew pronouns and their usage. The shlicha Libby Bear also gave the kids a lesson during our Ivrit class this week which enhanced their knowledge of Israel's geography. The Navi tests also were sent home this week and should also find their way back signed, corrected and returned. For Chanukah the children created their own "chanukiot" and I can't wait to see their presentations tomorrow. The chanukiot look fantastic and soooo original. In Mishna we learned mishna beth in masechet brachot perek aleph. I hope your child is listening to it on the CD and learning it by heart.
Today we will come home again with a riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.
I would like to wish you all a very Happy Chanukah and a restful and enjoyable winter break!
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin

grade 3/ weekly bulletin dec. 19th
Ooops! We had such a busy afternoon, I forgot to send the bulletin home w/ the kids. Please see it here.
Dec.19th
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have had an exciting week in our Judaics program. Although a lot of our time was spent on rehearsing for our play, we did manage to get a lot of learning in , as well. In Chumash Eliezer has finished relating his story and we focused on the differences between how he relates it and the exact language of what originally happened. The reasons Eliezer makes slight changes is because he really wants them to agree to let Rivka leave with him and he wants to show them that this is all from Hashem. We are now up to pasuk 50. Tomorrow the children will be tested on the previous pesukim of 28-38.
In Ivrit we worked on vocabulary connected to Chanukah and the children had a lesson with the Israeli Shlicha Libby Bear this week. The children really "experienced" the history of Chanukah by doing the play, which we hoped you all enjoyed.
We also made and sent our classmate Josh Needleman Chanukah cards since he has been gone for so long.
Today your children will come home with another riveting Dvar Torah to share at the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you. They should also decorate their parashat hashavua page for our "yofi shel parasha" corner.
Please remind them to do "kebaba" especially during vacation.
I will be sending home one of our Tal Am "library" books with your child to read during the vacation.
I would like to wish you all a very Happy Chanukah and a restful and enjoyable winter break!
Shabbat Shalom,

Shavua Tov!
So what's doing this week?
Well, we will be busy rehearsing for our play. Please mark the 18th at 9:30 on your calendars and join us in our Chanukah program.
We will continue our studies in Chumash and reading of Rashi.
We will continue learning about the dinim of Chanukah and its special vocabulary and songs.
In other words, we will be having another great exciting week of learning and enjoying!
Please make sure your child reviews his/her part well. In addition nightly review of the pesukim we are learning is essential and a kebaba or two this week would be great!
We are due for another Chumash test, however, I am not sure whether we will have it this week or after the break. We really have a lot going on. I will be testing the children on their reading of Rashi this week: on Wednesday.
Thank you!

"anak v'gamad " for grade 5/ week of Dec. 15th
There is a nice Israeli class activity always done before Chanukah. Each child becomes someone's secret "anak" (giant) and buys that person a token present for Chanukah. He is not allowed to reveal his identity to his "gamad" (little person). The children, when they heard about this, were interested in doing it in our class. So please make sure your child purchases a small gift no more than $5.00 worth ( we said between $3 and $5) for his/her "gamad". The gifts need to be in class by Friday so they can surprise their "gamadim". Since the number in our class is odd (11 students) , I will be playing , too.
Other news: A Chumash test on perek beth, pesukim 11-25 (end of perek) including all Rashi's we have learned and all worksheets: Thursday, Dec. 18th
Please make sure your child brings in any material he/she needs for his/her unique chanukiah by tomorrow. They really need to have them in shape for the exhibit on Thursday.
We will also be having a Chanukah party in class on Friday. The children have formed committees and are in charge. The party is all about Chanukah and they will be in charge of decorating, skits, and refreshments. Please make sure that all food sent has the proper "hechsher" kashrut.
Well, it certainly looks like an exciting week!

weekly bulletin for grade 3/ dec. 12th
Dec.12th
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have had an exciting week in our Judaics program. In Chumash we are still with Eliezer in Rivka's parents' home and he is relating the whole story of how he came to be there and met Rivka, trying to show them that this is all from Hashem so they agree to let Rivka leave with him. ( I told you this is a long perek and we are now working on pesukim 35-45.)
In Ivrit we are working on vocabulary connected to Chanukah and the children heard a story about "pikuach nefesh docheh Shabbat" ( that one can break Shabbat to save a life) This was in connection to Matityahu's decision to let the Jewish people fight back against the Greeks on Shabbat. The children then each wrote a short summary of the story. Speaking of Chanukah we are in the midst of our rehearsals for our Chanukah play. This does take a chunk of our time, but the children are really learning a lot acting out the story, working together also develops their social skills and builds their sense of responsibility, plus I know you will enjoy seeing your children as wonderful actors and actresses.
Today your children will come home with another riveting Dvar Torah to share at the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you. They should also decorate their parashat hashavua page for our "yofi shel parasha" corner.
Please remind them to do "kebaba."
Please remember that they should always review the pesukim we do in Chumash at home each night for about 10 minutes.
Please try to see the blog regularly for important updates.

Dec. 12th
Shalom Dear Parents,
This has been an exciting week in Kita Heh. On Wed. they had a great time at the Chanukah Carnival and on Thursday I had the pleasure of escorting the children on their Science trip with Dr. Andrea Balas and Mrs. Hartstein. I had a great time and really learned a lot! I know the kids had a great time. They were so engaged in all the wonderful activities.
But despite these great activities, we still managed to learn a lot. In Chumash we have almost finished perek beth. I would like to test them on pererk beth before we break for vacation, hopefully next Wed. Our new project in computers is Moshe's Journal. In Ivrit we are almost done with workbook # 1. We worked on words connected to Chanukah this week and the students wrote short paragraphs talking about the holiday. In Navi we completed perek 3 and are being tested on it on Friday. We continue learning the dinim for Chanukah and the children are working on their own "chanukiot" (menorahs) from any material they want. The idea is that they think of a certain idea/ theme and have their chanukia represent that. They will write a short explanation of what it represents. Some want to write a short skit, too.
Today we will come home again with a riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.

news bulletin for grade 5/ dec. 5th
Dec. 5th
Shalom Dear Parents,
We have been working hard in our Judaics program in Kita Heh .In Chumash we finished our in depth study of pesukim 11-16 which included a lot of Rashi's questions and answers. The children are finishing up their Egyptian newspapers, ( one more computer lesson should do it for most of them) and then we will start the next project which will be Moshe's journal/ diary. In Ivrit we are halfway through the Chaverim B'Ivrit workbook #1 and there will be a test on pgs. 1-18 this Monday (my group only). We have also started our next topic which is the house, rooms, and furniture. In Navi we are in the midst of perek 3 and have learned about Ehud Ben Gera the "lefty" who fashioned the first dagger and killed Eglon the king of Moav with it. The children were thrilled to read the quite graphic and unappetizing description of the king's guts spilling to the ground (ew!!) In Mishna we had our first comprehensive test on the entire introduction we did plus the historic part of the six nesiim and the mishna aleph ,as well. As of this minute I still have not completed marking the tests and hopefully will do so over the weekend. So please look for them on Monday to be signed , corrected and returned. In Dinim we have started talking about Chanuka. The children are going to be working on an exciting project for Chanuka. They will be designing their own "chanukiot" (menorahs) from any material they want. The idea is that they think of a certain idea/ theme and have their chanukia represent that. They will write a short explanation of what it represents. I have told them to gather their materials and to bring them in on Monday so that they can begin working on it. For example: a Chanukia that represents "peace" could have its branches be of doves, olive branches, related pics, etc. This could be made out of play dough, silver foil, etc… Hopefully, we will exhibit their work at our Chanuka program on Dec. 18th, B"H. Some are interested in writing a skit to go with their Chanukia, well , we'll see how that progresses. They are very enthusiastic about it which is great!
Today we will come home again with a riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.
Please remind them to do "kebaba."
Please continue to check the blog for important updates.

Shabbat Shalom,

The children are coming home w/ their scripts for our Chanuka play. They should just read through it. We did not have a chance yet to even read it together b/c of Choir practice. So plse. have them read it through so tomorrow they can try out for the different parts. And as I told the kids: "There are no small parts, only small actors!" I may be adding a bit more Hebrew to the script and another song.
They are very excited about it and so am I.
Wish us luck!!
