weekly bulletin for grade 3/ Jan. 9th
Jan. 9th
Shalom Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we have only been back a week since winter break. We have accomplished so much this week. In Ivrit we are starting to learn the vocabulary of the next holiday, "Tu B'Shvat". We also heard the story "Yosef Mokir Shabbat, " and the children wrote their own summaries of the story they listened to. In Chumash we reviewed for our test which is today and continued learning new pesukim. We now know that Rivka's family is allowing her to go with Eliezer because they were convinced by Eliezer that "Me Hashem Yatsah Hadavar,"(that this is all from G-d and therefore, meant to be). We also saw that although these were ancient times, Rivka was asked if she wanted to go and was not forced to go. As a fun project the children designed "business cards" for either Eliezer or for Avraham.
The children are also busy working on/ reading their library books. I was happy to see that several of the students were able to finish their books over vacation. They have started on their projects. Others are still finishing their reading and will start on their projects when they are done. The purpose of the books is not, to be able to understand every word, but just to be able to follow the story with the help of the pictures and the vocabulary they have. This is a work in progress and each time it will get easier as the children expand their vocabulary.
Today your children will come home with another riveting Dvar Torah to share at the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you. They should also decorate their parashat hashavua page for our "yofi shel parasha" corner.
Please remind them to do "kebaba" . I recommend at least twice a week.
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin

grade 5/ weekly bulletin for Jan.9th
Jan. 9th
Shalom Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we have only been back a week since winter break. We have accomplished so much this week. In Chumash we are analyzing what we know of Moshe's character and why Hashem chose him to be the leader of Bnei Yisrael. What are the qualities of a good leader? We started learning about Moshe's first encounter with Hashem at the Burning Bush in perek gimel of Sefer Shmot. As a mini project the children designed "business cards" for Moshe. In computers the children are busy on their Moshe diaries. In Ivrit we are busy learning and using new vocabulary and have almost completed the first workbook in the Chaverim B'Ivrit series. The children have an exciting project to do instead of a test on the whole book. They are going to be making their own photo albums and describe their pictures in Hebrew modeling it after the work they did in their workbooks. In Navi we have started perek daled (4) and are learning about the first and only woman judge, D'vora, who was also a prophetess and the war against Yavin the king of Hatsor and his general Sisera. The children enjoyed hearing about the war strategies of D'vora's general Barak ben Avinoam. (the children joked how we had "Barak" and "Bush" in our lessons, ha, ha!) In Mishna we reviewed mishna beth in masechet brachot perek aleph which we learned before the break. The children then made up skits showing how they could actually use the knowledge they are learning from this mishna in every day life. They did a fantastic job. Ask them to tell you about their skits. They should know this Mishna by heart. It is not a hard one and much shorter than the first one we learned. I hope your child is listening to it on the CD, as this can help.
I am encouraging the students to do more "kebaba", please encourage them as well. It should be done twice a week. They have to review reading the pesukim anyway, so might as well fill out some rows on the kebaba sheets, right?
Today they will come home again with another riveting Dvar Torah to enhance the Shabbat table, so please be sure to ask your child to share it with you.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin
