grade 3/ sept. 22

Reminder: There will be a Chumash test on pesukim 1-6. The children will have a pretest tomorrow which will show them what to expect. They reeeally know these pesukim well already and I am sure we can pick up our pace dramatically from now on. It did take them a while to "get into it" and learn how to learn Chumash, but now we are all set for a lot of great learning. They are really enjoying it and so am I! They love to act out the pesukim and we certainly have a lot of great actors and actresses. I am encouraging them to learn whatever they can by heart.

We are also starting our learning of the Yom Kippur and Succot dinim (laws), so we are very busy.

Some of the children still need to complete their Tsom Gedalia drawings and hand them in.

Today we started perek aleph in Navi. For our next Navi lesson (Thurs.) you should review the pesukim we did (1-7). You can do Kebaba for Navi, just write that it was Navi and not Chumash.

Tomorrow we will continue in Mishna so review the mishna we learned. Try to learn it by heart, if you haven't already.

We also have to learn our dinim for Yom Kippur and Succot, so we are going to be verrry busy!

grade 3/ sept. 21 upcoming Chumash test !!

That's right we are going to have our very first Chumash test this coming FRIDAY and not Wed. as previously written. We will practice a lot beforehand and even have a "pretest" so the children will know what to expect.
the test will be on: pesukim 1-6 (even though we have done more) in perek 23 including the rashi we learned on pasuk aleph. The children should be able to read and understand each of these pesukim and answer basic questions using the Chumash for help. They should know basic vocabulary from these pesukim which we focused on in class. They will have a worksheet with the exact words they need to know.
Today they were very excited to hear the whole story of the reason behind the fast of Gedalia and need to complete their illustrations of the story at home to bring back tomorrow. Please ask them why we fast today.

grade 5/ sept.21 upcoming Chumash test

There will be a Chumash test on pesukim 8-14 including the rashi's we are learning, (and still have to learn) this coming Friday 9/25.
There will also be one question from peskim 1-7 that we were tested on already. Until a perek is completed there will always be one question from "older" pesukim.

Let's see who can recite Pharaoh's speech to his people by heart on Wed. when we have our next Chumash lesson. We will also learn 2 small rashi's which will complete what we need for our test. You should use the time tonight, since I did not give any written h.w., to review these pesukim including the one rashi we have done so far on pasuk 8.

Tomorrow we will be starting Navi. Until now we have only done an intro lesson. Our Navi time was given over to our Dinim time ,(learning about the laws of the holidays), and although we do have to learn about Yom Kippur and Succot, we will have a Navi lesson tomorrow.

grade 3/ sept. 18th weekly bulletin

Shalom Dear Parents,
It has been a busy and exciting week in Kita Gimel. In Chumash we are continuing to explain the pesukim we are learning in Ivrit and concentrating on learning the new vocabulary. We learned how Bnei Chet showed respect to Avraham and Avraham also shows them respect. There will be a Chumash test on the first 7 pesukim next Friday, B"H. Please check my blog for more info on this. We are progressing in our study of the Rashi script . Please encourage your child to review reading. Reading Rashi can also be done for Kebaba. Each child should have 2 red folders: one for Chumash work and one for Rashi. Another folder, yellow, is for dinim work. In Dinim we have continued our study of Rosh Hashana and the different laws related to the holiday. We look forward to our Shabbat party today.

Wishing you a Shana Tova U'Metuka, a happy and sweet year!

Shalom Dear Parents,

It has been a busy and exciting week in Kita Heh. In Chumash we are learning about Pharaoh's devious plan to destroy the Jewish people. We are analyzing the pesukim and studying the new vocabulary. We are trying to memorize part of Pharaoh's speech to his fellow Egyptians and act it out using some cool props. Let's see who can do that next week. In Dinim we have learned the different halachot (laws) pertaining to Rosh Hashana and will have our test today. In Mishna we are trying to memorize our first mishna about the mesorah of the Torah She b'al Peh. Today we will have an Oneg Shabbat with Rabbi Elbaz, listen to a parsha talk from Rabbi Kahn, learn more new songs, and play a game related to Rosh Hashana.
Please don't forget to check my blog for daily work and important messages, test dates, etc.
Mazal tov to the first students to complete stages 1 & 2 of Kebaba. Our Kebabaists are: Dasha and Shayna . Yeshar Koach!! Kebaba should be done twice a week.

Today we had to rush a bit to get to the student council assembly and not everyone wrote down their h.w. From the assembly we went to gym.

I just would like the children to keep on reviewing the pesukim from 1-6. We are now working on the vocabulary so that they can understand each pasuk. We are also working on the rashi on pasuk aleph (p. 28 in the Chumshon). Next week we will have our first Chumash test on these pesukim. I will post the date here and tell the children later this week.

Not many parsha pages came back today. You can still bring them tomorrow if you forgot to today.

I don't usually give homework over the weekend, BUT I do recommend:

a/ giving your Dvar Torah at the Shabbat table from our Parsha page. After Shabbat getting it signed and complimented and returning it to me. You can also color it and decorate for our Yofi Shel Parasha corner.

b / doing Kebaba on pesukim 1-4. We haven't fully explained 3-4 yet, b/c we were working on our new Tishrei choveret in Chagim and didn't do as much Chumash, but you can still review.
We also started a bit of Rashi today!!

Sept. 4th, 2009

Shalom Dear Parents,

It has been a busy and exciting week in Kita Heh. We have started learning our different subjects. In Chumash we have completed our "pshat" study (the plain story) of pesukim 1-7 and are now delving into a deeper analysis using Rashi to help us understand and answer our many questions. There will be a test coming up next Friday, B"H, on these pesukim including the Rashi's. In Navi we had a brief review of Sefer Yehoshua and are starting Sefer Shoftim. In Mishna we had an introductory lesson as to what the Torah She'b'al Peh is and will start learning our first mishna next week. In Dinim we reviewed the special minhagim (customs) of Chodesh Elul. Today we will have an Oneg Shabbat with Rabbi Elbaz, listen to a parsha talk from Rabbi Kahn, learn more new songs, and have a competition.
Today your child will come home with a riveting D'var Torah to give at the Shabbat table. Please encourage him/her to share it with you and don't forget to write a short comment on it so that he /she can return it to me on Tuesday.
Please don't forget to check my blog for daily work and important messages, test dates, etc.
Please encourage your child to do "Kebaba."
