grade 5/ sept. 21 upcoming events!

Just some news about next week- Chol HaMoed Sukkot.
Rabbi Elbaz and I are organizing and planning an awesome Sukkot Battle of the Arba'at Haminim for Tuesday for grades 5 and 6. As a result there are going to be some changes to your Fifth grader's schedule next week.
Monday: There will be General Studies in the morning instead of the afternoon because the children are going Sukka Hopping after lunch with grades 2, 3, 4.
Tuesday: There will be General Studies again in the morning instead of the afternoon because the "Battle" will start at 10:45 in the morning and go till dismissal. The events of the day will include all kinds of activities including reviewing and showing knowledge of all the dinim the children learned about Sukkot.
Wednesday: Regular schedule. Keep in mind there is a 2 pm dismissal that day.

We look forward to an exciting and fun filled learning experience next week in the spirit of "V'samachta B'chagecha"!

Wishing you all a very Chag Sameach!

grade 3/ sept. 21 Questions to ask your child

We had just two lessons (Mon. and Tues.), but we did our best to cover the laws of Sukkot. I told the children that they are going home with much knowledge to share at their holiday meals. I have included some questions you can ask your child. They have the worksheets in their yellow folders. 1. When is Sukkot= Hebrew date?
2. What are other names for Sukkot and why?
3. Why do we build a sukka? (2 reasons)
4. What is "noi Sukka?"
5. What is "schach"?
6. What are the brachot we make when we enter the Sukka?
7. What are the "arbaat Haminim?
8. What bracha do we make on them?
9. What is Shmini Atseret?
10. What do we add in Shmona Esrei on Shmini Atseret?
11. What is "Simchat Torah?
12. What is the last parsha in the Torah? the first?
13. What do the arbaat haminim symbolize? It helps explain why we hold them all together when we make the blessing on them and shake them.
14. What is so special about Hoshana Rabba? (Since we do have school on Hoshana Rabba, I told the children we would talk more about it then.)
15. What is a "kosher sukka"?
16. Who are the Ushpizin?
REMINDER: We are going Sukka Hopping on Monday right after lunch. It is sure to be an amazing day! Fun activities are prepared for the children. After all, one of the holidays names is:
Z'man Simchateinu ( time of joy/happiness)

One more reminder: Not all the children have shown me their parent's signature on their Rosh Hashana test. PLease ask to see it and return it to me signed. Thank you!
Wishing you all a very Chag Sameach!

grade 3/ sept. 2

Chumash: you can read ahead practicing your reading on psukim 3-6 and do it for Kebabah , however, just reading since we have not yet learned them.
Because of the month of holidays, we are devoting more time to learning about Rosh Hashana, etc. now and won't have as many Chumash lessons for the time being. Today we had a lesson because there are no specialties on Thursdays. This is a chance to do a bit of Kebaba on new psukim. Your child can also do Kebaba for Chagim by reading aloud the worksheets we do and explaining them to you. PLease write on the Kebaba sheet the title of the worksheet so I know what was done, Thank you!
