grade 3/ oct. 27th hw.

We had a surprise "quiz" today on psukim 7-11 to see who has been paying really good attention in class. We also acted out some of the psukim between Avraham and Efron. Boy, do we have great actors and actresses in our third grade! We will now work on our new psukim and complete our study of perek 23. So for hw please reread the last set of psukim from pasuk 15 till the end of perek 23.
We are also continuing our practice of reading Rashi letters. I have collected the last couple of worksheets so I can see how well our students are doing.

As I am posting this the fire drill went off. As a result our lesson will start a bit later. So your child will let you know what we were able to get done from what I wrote above.

grade 3/ oct. 26th hw

Chumash: practice reading and explaining psukim 7-15 . You should be able to explain it well by now! We completed another worksheet today in class working on the vocabulary of these psukim, so you can use it to help you. It should be in your red folder! Also practice reading the last two psukim dramatically as either Avraham or Efron. Students who can say these psukim well will get the chance to dress up in real costumes and act it out!
I would also like you to read the last psukim of perek 23 from 15- the end of the perek. We will be learning these psukim tomorrow, so you can get a first look at them.

Please reread and see how much you can explain of psukim 7-15 in perek 23 . Your third grader got 2 Rashi worksheets to do tonight for hw. One is reading and they were asked to have someone sign it that they did read. The other is a worksheet where they have to circle the correct answer.

There is a Chumash "quest" this Wed. on psukim 15- end of perek aleph including the vocab and Rashi's we have learned. Today you received a Review sheet which we went over in class, so use it to study. You will be allowed to use your Chumash, but if you don't need to, you can earn extra credit! So study! You can also use the different worksheets we did in class to help you review in addition to the review sheet.

Mishna: review reading the mishna and see how much you understand of it already. Make sure you know at least lines 1-5 by heart, if you don't yet!

grade 3/ oct. 21

Chumash: we worked today on understanding psukim 7-11 so your child should be able to explain them to you. We also did a worksheet on comprehension and vocab of these psukim. It should be in their Chumash (red) folder. Not all the children read the psukim yesterday. It is very important to please establish good hw habits. The children need to improve their reading skills in Chumash. Also there were some students who did not complete p. 7 in their Tal Am workbooks which was also hw. Please be vigilant about your child's hw. If you are not sure what it is, I have it on my daily blog. If you are having difficulty checking it, please let me know.

Since Avraham is teaching us the importance of Eretz Yisrael (ask your child how?) we are planning an Israel Corner in our classroom. Children are bringing in objects they have from Eretz Yisrael ONLY with their parent's permission to put on display. They "show and tell" about the object. This is not obligatory at all. It was an idea we had and thought it would be nice to share such objects with our classmates. No child is obligated to bring in anything, this is purely optional! There is no extra credit or anything rewarded for anyone who does, just the pleasure of sharing with others. We just want to bring Israel a bit closer to us , especially if we have never been there.

Please look for the parsha page, parsha workbook and my bulletin in your child's backpack tomorrow.

grade 5/ reminders! and hw reminders!

Navi test is on Friday. Also the hw in Navi (page with your illustrations) is due Friday and is 10% of your test score. It must be neat,clear, accurate and colored.

Mishna: we will be learning Mishna tomorrow instead of Friday since Friday we will have the Navi test. So make sure you know lines 1-5 of the Mishna by heart if you do not already. If you do then try to learn the next 4 lines by heart. You got a worksheet from me last time (the one with the 3 bubbles and Rabbi pics) . You were supposed to fill in the 3 bubbles with the 3 different opinions of till when we can say Shma of Arvit. Please make sure you have the page and that you did it.

So start studying for Navi do not leave for the last minute. REview the perek and the packet and worksheets. Also your Navi bookmark with the vocab words you need to know.

grade 5/ Navi test update! oct. 19th

Because I had to be out today due to my daugher not feeling well, I will postpone the Navi test to Friday to allow us time tomorrow to finish up loose ends, ask any questions, and to allow your child enough time to review.

There will be a slight change to our schedule for the remainder of this week. Mishna and Navi will switch so we will do Mishna on Thursday and Navi -that is the test - will be on Friday.

So prepare any questions you have about Navi for our review tomorrow. The hw in Navi : the cartoons or "tmunot mesaprot" on the selected psukim from perek aleph will be due Friday the same day as the test. Remember this assignment is 10% of your Navi test, so put in the time and effort to make it great!

Please start bringing in old magazines for our upcoming Crazy Connection project.

Navi: Reminder: test this Thursday on perek aleph. Use all the worksheets to review as well as reading through the perek. You don't have to understand each and every word, but you need to follow the different events and understand certain phrases that we stressed. These phrases appear in your packet, in your hw which I will write about in a second and will also be on the bookmarks we will be making tomorrow.
About the Navi hw which is also 10 points of your Navi test!!: you need to read the pasuk or phrase and illustrate it neatly and attractively (use color!) to show you understand it. The more your picture shows good understanding the more points you get of those 10! So put efffort into your work. This is due the day of the test: Thursday and no late papers please. You will just lose the 10 points. If you have any questions see me before Thursday, please!

grade 3/ Test reminder!!

Our Chumash test is tomorrow! Please make sure your reread the psukim 1-7 and review Rashi's answers to his question on pasuk aleph: Why does the Torah repeat the word "shana"?
and to pasuk beth's question: Why is another name for Chevron, Kiryat Arba?
The actual Rashi's we read this time from their Chumshonim (the small pamphlet like Chumash) and not the actual Chumash, on pages 28 and 30.
Review of the "pretest" review sheet is strongly encouraged as similar questions will appear on the test tomorrow.

Study for your Chumash test which is Thursday on psukim 1-7 and the two Rashi's we learned on pgs. 28 and 30 in your Chumshonim. Just know the answers to Rashi's questions: 1/ why does the Torah repeat the word "shana" in pasuk aleph?
2/ Why is Chevron also called Kiryat Arba?
Use the review sheet (pretest) we did on Monday and other worksheets you have in your Chumash folder to review.

grade 3/ oct. 11 important update to test!

Instead of having gym today the third grade will have gym Wed. due to a temporary change in Mr. Bailey's schedule. So today the children had another lesson with me which was great . It gave us a chance to do our Second Step lesson. You will get info about it together with my Friday newsletter later this week. However,that means that we will have a shortened lesson this Wednesday since they will have gym. That also means that....... there will not be enough time to test them on Chumash so......the Chumash test will be on THURSDAY. I don't remember ever having to change a test date so many times and I apologize for this, but this time it was really out of my hands. The children know and wrote it down.
Today we did our "pretest" review sheet which they should use to review. It , however, has only one of the Rashi's they are required to know. We reviewed the other: why does the Torah repeat the word '"shana" so many times in pasuk aleph. They appear very ready and tomorrow we will be starting new psukim. So please note the test will be this Thursday , B"H, hopefully!!
I was happy to see the many parsha pages that came back decorated and signed. Please do not forget to also sign the new Parsha workbook page that we learned on Parshat Noach.

H.W. review psukim 1-7 with full comprehension. PLease note on the kebaba sheets if your child was able to explain these psukim. They have worksheets on these psukim that we completed in class in their red folders. These should be used when reviewing for the test.
We will next be learning 2 Rashi's from these psukim. We will be trying simultaneously to read RAshi as we hone our skills with worksheets on the problematic letters. For this upcoming test the children do not have to be able to read the Rashi's we learn, just to understand them.
