grade 3/ nov. 29th

PLease see this week's hw assignment sheet in your child's planner. Tonight they have a RAshi worksheet to do. We will be working mostly on the Chanuka play this week, so I am encouraging review of the psukim in Chumash. As we work on the Chanuka packet, please review that as well. I will not be giving any tests during Chanuka. This means that their Chumash test on psukim 1-15 in perek 24 will be after Chanuka. This also means that a test on the dinim (laws) of chanuka will also have to be after Chanuka. I normally do not give 2 tests in one week, but will probably have to schedule them the week after Chanuka. To put it off even more might make the children forget the material. I will post the exact dates early next week, so you have ample time to review. But certainly doing it slowly now each night will help, while there is no pressure.

Thank you for your cooperation. PLease make sure your child knows his/her part by heart. In addition each child must know the words to the 3 songs by heart since everyone sings the songs.

grade 3/ nov. 18th

Chumash: we read new psukim today and briefly explained the main ideas. I would like the children to practice their reading of these psukim : perek 24 psukim 11-15 as written on my weekly assignment sheet.
We also read through the play and , if everything goes well, then they have their permanent part and can begin learning by heart. All children must know their parts by heart by after Thanksgiving. Please make sure your child is not the exception. We don't have much time for this play and will be practicing in the shul right after Thanksgiving, B"H, and scripts will not be allowed by then.
SAVE the DATE: DEC.th at 9:30 for our fabulous production!

Please look for my weekly bulletin tomorrow in the Friday folder. There will not be a parsha page this week only the parsha workbook to allow me the time we need today for play practice.(and since we did not have school yesterday...)

grade 3/ nov. 16th hw

Chumash: to review psukim 1-10 (don't have to read all can do 5 tonight and 5 tomorrow night)
and pages 28 and 29 in the Tal Am workbook. This is due Thursday, of course, no school tomorrow.

I sent home in their take home folders my new weekly assignment sheet and their Chumash tests which need to be signed and returned to me, please.

I have also given out tentative parts for our chanuka skit. This is a skit and not a full length play. No parts are big, most are a line or two. Please encourage your child to be happy with what he/she got and to be excited about this project. Please make sure your child DOES NOT leave their script at home ,but always brings it to school since we will be rehearsing each day for some part of the time. Parts are not permanent yet and will only be when we have a complete read through on Thursday. I will be putting in vowels on the scripts for the children who need them .

Chumash test (really "quest) this Thursday on Perek beth psukim 1-10 and the 5 Rashi's we have learned . You all showed me that you had the proper worksheets so you know what to review.
The Rashi's are: pasuk aleph: Vayikach et Bat Levi pasuk bet: ki tov hu pasuk gimel: v'lo yachla od haspino pasuk heh: et amatah pasuk vav: vatiftach vatir'eyhu

Mishna "twiz" this Friday on Mishna beth: remember you need to know the whole mishna by heart. Kol HaKavod to our Cochavei Mishna who already know it by heart. Some of you just need to fine tune it a bit and you are there!

you should continue working on your perek project and it is good to review the reading of psukim 1-10.
I sent home the script for our Chanuka play. There are a few more parts which are in Hebrew and will come from our Chanuka dinim learning packet which we will start next week. Your child can look it over if he/she wants, but please send it back tomorrow b/c we will be starting try outs. It needs to come to school each day please! PLease make sure your child keeps it in the sheet protector that has their name on it.

grade 5/ nov. 10th Mishna test and change in Chumash test date

First thank you to all my wonderful fifth graders for making my birthday such a special day with all your warm wishes and cards (and delicious board cakes! yum! much healthier !)

Just some reminders and a test announcement:
Navi: for tomorrow 1-5 on p. 4 of packet

Mishna: learn the other 5 lines by heart; Test is Tuesday and you need to know the WHOLE mishna by heart including understanding which you all show you do. Also complete the chart on my worksheet for Friday. Try to do it without looking and see if you can. You will be finetuning your memorization on Friday with your Chavruta.

Chumash: test is on Thursday on psukim 1-10 in perek beth. We still need to finish up a couple of Rashi's so I have changed the date to thursday. It is not regularly a Chumash day but we will have the test during the period after lunch.

I hope you all have seen my hw assignment sheet that was sent home yesterday. There is a slight change to today's hw. The children will not have to illustrate anything in Avraham's journal. We did not have a chance to write in it today. We did, though, read through psukim 1-9 in perek 24 and explained the first five psukim, so ask your third grader what is going on there and see how well they were paying attention. Please make sure they continue working on their perek project (due Friday) and remember the stamp project is due tomorrow.

Navi: reminder: Questions 1-5 on p.4 of packet on perek gimel on Ehud Ben Gera

Mishna: for tomorrow in the Bonayich workbooks p. 120 the chart. you also need to know lines 1-5 by heart , most of you already know it and that is great. However, I have given you ample time to learn it so if you still do not know it by tomorrow, it will get you a late letter for not doing hw. Those who already know it, can start learning the rest by heart. When we do have a test on this mishna you will be expected to know the WHOLE mishna by heart.

grade 3/ nov. 8th important news!!

Chodesh Tov everyone!
I hope you noticed my homework assignment sheet in your third grader's take home folder today. I will be sending home such a sheet each week so you can preview the week's worth and plan hw preparation accordingly with your child. If this is done properly, then work can get done without spending more than what a third grader should be spending on homework. Each day it will be put in their English take home folder and I ask that you please sign it daily . I welcome any questions or comments and will respond as quickly as possible. I hope this will enable hw to be done as "painlessly" as possible and work to help your child thrive and succeed in their Judaic lessons.
I will also continue to post hw and assignments on my blog.
Your child received his/her Perek project packet today. I explained what needs to be done and there is an explanation on each page. This is to be done gradually during the week and is due this Friday Nov. 12th, B"H.
I sent home their "stamp" projects last Wed and asked for them to be returned this Wed. I hope they have been working on them and will bring them back this Wed. The ones that have come back so far are AMAZING!!

Upcoming Chumash test: next Monday Nov. 15th, B"H, (still tentative) on perek beth psukim 1-10. We still have 5 different Rashi's to learn, but should be ready for a test on Monday. Will let you know by Wed. if it is definite.

grade 3/ nov. 4th hw reminders and test

Chumash test this Monday on psukim 12-20 of perek 23. Today we organized our red folders and the children know what to keep and what to store at home. There are two worksheets which should be reviewed for this test. The rest should be filed away at home.

Today I sent home the 'stamp" project which should be completed at home and returned by next Thursday, please.

REminder: the Rashi worksheets are due Monday.

We did our parsha page today since tomorrow I will be accompanying the fifth grade to CJDS and I will only have our third graders at the very end of the day. Hopefully we will have time to complete the Parsha workbook tomorrow. I will be sending home my weekly bulletin.

grade 3/ nov. 3rd hw and upcoming test

In Chumash: we started a review sheet today in class and I asked the children to try to do some more at home, really as much as they can. There are questions on the other side too that can be answered in English or Ivrit. This is for tomorrow. Remember there was also TAl Am hw in their Chumash workbook: pgs. 14 and 15 which they should have started yesterday.
I also gave them a Rashi packet of 3 pages to be done for Monday: the first sheet they need to read and circle the correct answer. The other two are reading pages which need to be signed that they indeed read. We will read them in our "chavrutot" (learning pairs) in class next week to see how accurate we are.

There will be a Chumash test next week Monday on psukim 12-20 . The truth is we have reviewed these quite a bit so your child should understand quite well. PLease use the review sheet (the one they have for hw and the other worksheet on these psukim for review). They can use the Chumash for the test.
