grade 2/ sept. 19th weekly assignment sheet

Dear Parents,
This week's weekly assignment sheet with your child's homework is stapled into your child's planner. Please take a look so you know what the daily hw is. I also wrote all the words that your child should review for this WED's Chumash test. PLease remember that I said each child should review what they CAN whether 2 , 5, 7, or all 10 words. Also please note that there are two types of exercises: one where certain words are translated into English and the other where they are paired up with words in Hebrew, according to their meaning from the Chumash.Your child can do one section or both.
Thank you and have a wonderful week!

sept 19th hw and new weekly assignment page GRADE 3

Shalom!
A new weekly assignment sheet is in your child's planner. This can give you a look ahead at the week. Tonight's hw is to review psukim 1-6 in perek 23 of Parashat Chayei Sarah. 1 and 2 should be understood totally, 3-6 I expect general comprehension at this point . Later in the week we will work on vocabulary. There will be a test on these psukim eventually ( probably only after Rosh Hashana), so review is important for it not to become overwhelming.
Thank you and Shavua Tov!

grade 2/ sept. 15th hw

In the Chumash packet: p. 9 please practice reading psukim 1-3 of Perek beth. You can ask your child : When do we say these psukim?
See if they can tell you the meaning of these words: "vayichulu" "shavat" "malachto"
Please remember that starting next week I will be putting in your child's planner a weekly assignment sheet on Mondays to give you a look at the work for the week ahead.

Change in grade 3 hw for thurs night 9/15

The hw for tonight has been changed from what is on the weekly sheet: I asked the children to review the page of Rashi we did today in their Rashi packets . Some may still want to do the Kebaba work and that , of course, is fine, too. However, I do have a feeling that not all the children were clear on what to do which is why I am NOT holding them accountable for the hw tonight. I'll tell you why: today was the first day of balloon popping and things got quite exciting and we ran a bit late which did not give me time to remind them of the new homework. I could not run into Morah Eva's time. So if your child forgot his packet in school today , it is ok!
Thank you for your cooperation,

another important message for second grade parents sept. 14th

We are getting ready for our very first Chumash quiz/test of the year! Your child had a pretest yesterday on some of the main words we have learned in the psukim we are studying. Please have a look , it is in their Chumash red folder. Please sign and return so I know you saw it. There will be a quiz on these words NEXT Wed. B"H. Your child DOES NOT have to know all these words. I explained to the children that each does as much as he/she can. Up to 5 or all 10 whatever he/she can do. I expect that some of the children will learn 3 words, some 5, some 7 , some all 10. Also part is translation to English, and another part is connecting a word in Hebrew to another word in Hebrew relating to the psukim we learned. It is perfectly all right for a child to just do one of these sections, if he/she finds the other section too difficult. All quizzes/tests will cater to all levels of understanding and learning. Each child needs to feel successful at what he/she CAN do.
I want the children to love learning Chumash and to feel great about themselves! PLease help me do this.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Morah Robin

grade 2/ sept. 14th

In Chumash: General review up till p. 8 in packet and your child can read ahead on p. 9 for accuracy only, since we have not yet learned p. 9. PLease spend no more than 10 mins. for homework. Each child will read and explain as much as they can in that time.

Translation packets are available for parents who would like one. PLease let me know and I will send one home with your child.

I hope to see you this evening,
Morah Robin

grade 3/ sept. 14th

Today we read our first REAL Rashi!! For hw I recommend practicing the reading of the Rashi (p. 28 in the Chumashon) . It can be done for Kebaba. So many of our third graders are already on their Second stage of Kebaba, it is wonderful! I know I owe a few of them prizes for stage One. I will give it to them before the end of this week, B"H.
You can ask your child to tell you what is Rashi's question and answer for this Rashi. We also have a worksheet on the Rashi which we did part of in class, only the top two parts were done.

Look forward to seeing you this evening!

morah robin's weekly newsletter for sept. 9th for grade 3

Shalom Third Grade Parents,
The second week of school has been a busy one! In Chumash we should know the first two psukim really well by now. We even explained , actually Rashi explained, why the word "shana" is repeated so often when telling Sarah's age. You can ask your third grader what Rashi said. We did not read this Rashi, I just told it to them. However, we are starting to learn to read Rashi and that is very exciting. The children received their new Rashi packets and can see that reading Rashi is not so difficult. Why don't you also ask them to tell you something about Rashi himself? I am happy to say that we have a student who has already completed the first stage of Kebaba! Kol HaKavod to Chaya Batya, (Julia) Cieplinski ! Your child can read up till pasuk 6 now for Kebaba, but we have not yet explained psukim 3-6 yet. In Chagim we are busy learning in our Chagim packets about the month of Elul. Today each child wrote down a mitzvah or good deed that they would like to get better at, or take upon themselves in the month of Elul. Each day we will read one and try to get inspired by the lovely ideas. Today your child will come home with another beautiful D'var Torah to share at the Shabbat table. Please encourage them to do so. If returned signed they earn a sticker and if decorated it may hang in our "Yofi Shel Parasha" corner and participate in our "beautiful parsha contest." Today we will have a super Shabbat party led by Rabbi Elbaz and hear a story from Rabbi Hauser.
Please check my blog often as I do update it daily. Please always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I hope to see you this coming Wednesday night!
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin

morah robin's weekly newsletter for sept. 9th Grade Two

Shalom Second Grade Parents,
The second week of school was a very busy one! We are still getting used to our procedures and are busy learning our Judaic subjects. In Chumash we learned what Hashem created on days 1-4 of Creation , so far. We read selected psukim from perek aleph of Parshat Bereisheet in our Chumash packet. We also started an exciting new project entitled: I am drawing the Creation". You can see a sample on our bulletin boards in our hallway when you come this Wed. night. We also started a new workbook ,courtesy of the PTO, which will help make us good Chumash detectives and assist us in practicing new skills. I want to say Kol HaKavod to Shmuel Yosef (Saul) Blumberg and Ruth (Madison) Hall who were the first to complete the first stage of Kebaba! In Chagim we are busy learning about Elul and will start learning about Rosh Hashana soon, too. We have a chagim packet which we learn from.
Today we will have another beautiful D'var Torah to share with you at the Shabbat table. Please encourage your child to tell you what he/she has learned. If you sign the page after Shabbat, and he/she returns it on Monday, they can get a sticker on our incentive chart. If they also color it , it can hang in our "Yofi Shel Parasha" corner , and may even win our "beautiful parsha contest!"
On Fridays we have a special Shabbat party with the fifth graders. Rabbi Elbaz leads the party and we sing Shabbat songs and hear a story after getting a special Shabbat treat.
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night. Please make sure to check my blog regularly as I do update it often.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Shabbat Shalom!

grade 3/ sept. 8 hw

Today we started learning Rashi!! The children received a new Rashi packet. PLease note that I did NOT renumber the pages so when I say a page number it is the way it is in the orginal even if it is not in consecutive order. So tonight's hw is on p. 5 ( the chart of Rashi and regular letters). Your child should hilight the Rashi letters that he/she thinks ARE very different from the regular script and might be harder to learn. That's all.
Kebaba tonight is optional. We have not yet learned the new psukim and the limit on the same exact psukim is 3 times only. We will be learning new psukim next week.
KOL HAKAVOD to Julia Cieplinski who is the first third grader to complete the FIRST stage of Kebaba!! Let's keep "kebabing!"

grade 2/ sept.8

In the new Chumash workbook your child should do p. 9 .If he/she is unsure whether a word is feminine or masculine, they should leave it blank and they will complete it when we go over it in class. For a masculine (zachar) word they color it blue, for feminine (nekeva) they color it red.
Kebaba is optional tonight: we did learn a new pasuk today on the fourth day of Creation: pasuk 16 in perek aleph of Parshat Beresheet., p. 6 of our Chumash packet.

The hw today was for your second grader to tell you what Hashem created on the second day. Hopefully, you will get the answer in Hebrew as well as English. They do have the answer in their Chumash packet. ( yabasha= land, peirot= fruit (trees), yerakot= vegetables.)
Thank you !

grade 2/ sept. 6 hw

I hope you read my newsletter which was in your child's Chumash folder over the weekend. It contains important info. about our lessons.
Homework for tomorrow: In Chumash packet please have your second grader review the old psukim of aleph, gimel, heh and the new pasuk of chet on p. 4. You can ask him/her : what did Hashem create on the first day? What did He create on the second day? Also he/she should be able to explain ALL the words in the old psukim.
Please do Kebaba with your child. I recommend at least twice a week, but it looks like they like to do it more often, whenever there is Chumash reading hw, so why not?
Thank you for your cooperation!

Sept. 6th hw for grade 3

I hope you all enjoyed the longer weekend. I hope you read my introductory letter that was in your child's Chumash folder.
I will always post hw on the blog, just in case your third grader does not remember what it is. As soon as we use our new multi folders which they will be taking home daily, I will place a weekly hw assignment sheet in there so the hw will also be written down by your student.

For tomorrow: In the new Chagim packet (yellow folder) please do part Beth on p. 1. They have to color in only the words which tell us HOW to prepare for Rosh Hashana: teshuva, tefilla and tsedaka.
In Chumash: they can preview the next group of psukim in perek 23 psukim 3-6. We have not read these yet at all, so this is a preview , no comprehension is really expected.

Ask your child about our new "Chavruta" activity that we did today.

grade 2/ sept. 1 hw

Shalom!
Your child should have brought home his/her Chumash folder with their packet and Kebaba chart. I was so happy to see that almost 100% of our second graders did Kebaba yesterday and I loved reading the wonderful comments and compliments the children got. Please remember to put their Chumash folder in their backpacks for tomorrow.
Tonight's hw is to read the three psukim we have learned so far: on pg. 1 of the packet there is pasuk aleph, on p. 2 is pasuk gimel and on p.3 is pasuk heh. Some children said they wanted to read the whole page and not just the pasuk, that is fine, too.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of Kebaba!!

Your third grader hopefully came home today with his/her Chumash folder and the news that we are starting our KEBABA club! Please read the letter and returned signed so I know you saw it. I hope it is clear ,but just in case it is not, I am always happy to answer any questions via email or phone. The psukim that should be read are aleph and beth in perek 23 of parshat Chayei Sarah.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of Kebaba!
