morah robin's newsletter for Dec. 18th grade 2
B"H
Shalom Dear Second Grade Parents,
We certainly had a very busy week! We have been very busy learning all about Chanuka and working on our two packets, the one dealing with the story of Chanuka and the other dealing with the laws of Chanuka. We hope to complete them both this coming week. We were also busy rehearsing for our Chanuka presentation which consists of two songs, hand motions and all! Thank you to Morah Minna and Morah Cherie for teaching the songs, to Rabbi Elbaz for all his help in rehearsals , to Mrs. Kahn for musical accompaniment during our rehearsals this past week, and , of course, to Morah Malka , who is my right hand! I hope you will be at the Chanuka show this coming Wed. at 9:30.PLease send your second grader in white and blue/black for Wed.'s performance. Thank you! Please also remember to send in $3.00 with your second grader so he/she can buy Chanuka Carnival tickets for the Carnival on Tuesday. Each ticket costs 25 cents and $3.00 is the recommended amt.
Despite all our excitement about Chanuka, we managed to also have our first big Chumash test on 5 psukim! I hope to have them marked in your child's folders by Wed., so please make sure to look for them. Also in their folders, by then, I will have returned their Test packets on Noah and the techiliot quizzes.
I would also like to share with you what your children have been learning in Davening =Tefila with Rabbi Elbaz. In addition to learning the Tefila, Rabbi Elbaz had also taught them about 10 beautiful songs till now! It is simply amazing to hear them! They also did two Tefila activities where they expressed why they were davening.
I hope your child shared the parsha packet with you. We had a lot to discuss about this past week's parsha. This time I left the "thinking" question to be answered over the weekend. I am curious to see what wonderful answers the children come up with. Please don't forget to sign it, so I know they shared with you.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Chanuka and restful, wonderful winter break!
Sincerely,
Morah Robin

Shalom Dear Third Parents,
We had an extremely busy week completing our study of the laws and story of Chanuka and practicing for our Chanuka presentation. The children are very excited about their presentation and hope you will be able to join us for the show on Wed. at 9:30 . This week we will only be rehearsing . I will let your third grader know what he/she needs to wear "color" wise for Wed. , so please be sure to ask them. I will let them know tomorrow so there is time to prepare. I want to thank Morah Eva for teaching them the opening song and Rabbi Elbaz for teaching the other songs and for all his help at rehearsals ( and getting the costumes ready),and, of course, Morah Malka, who is my right hand this year! The test on the Chanuka packet will be this Wed., B"H, and the children have a review sheet in their planners which helps them know what to focus on. Thank you to Morah Armeni for being so flexible with the schedule , so I can test them on Wed during part of the General Studies' time.
I plan to have the Chumash tests back marked and in your child's planner no later than Wed. , so please check it by then.
I hope your child shared the Parsha pages with you. This time I left the thinking question to be discussed at home. I am curious to see what answers the children came up with! Please sign it so I know you saw it.
Also please send in $3.00 ( recommended amt.) for Chanuka Carnival tickets for your child. The Chanuka Carnival will be on Tuesday morning for all the Lower School classes.

Shalom Dear Second Grade Parents,
What a busy week we had in Kita Bet!In Chumash we really know the first five psukim of perek 12 in Parshat Lech Lecha so well! Different students acted out being Avram and giving the class hints as to which "bracha" he/she was speaking about, and the other students had to guess which bracha it was. I am very impressed by the way the children know the 7 brachot that Hashem blessed Avram with. Please ask them. We also learned about Avram's family tree and the people who went with him on his trip to Eretz Canaan. You can ask them who were Avram's brothers, who was his father and who were the children of Haran , his brother, that died (Lot, Sarai , and Milka). They can use the worksheet on the family tree for reference. We had a fun project , as well, and the children designed and wrote "Avram's Moving List" for his trip to Eretz Canaan. They wrote what "rechush" (possessions) he took with him and which people accompanied him.
We were also busy working on our Chanuka "story" packet, where the children read different parts of the Chanuka story in Hebrew and then illustrate to show their understanding. We also started a new Chanuka packet on the laws of Chanuka. We will be busy working on completing both packets this week. We were also busy rehearsing the songs and motions for our Chanuka show. Please remember the show is next week Wed. at 9:30. We look forward to seeing you there.
And if all that is not enough, we also found time to continue work on the "techiliot" (prefixes) of words in our Lehavin U'Lehaskil workbooks. We even had a short quiz on them on Thursday. We will have more quizzes on this important subject. Finally, we worked on our "animals" for our "teivot" (arks) and will work on the arks themselves, that is , if we find time this week with all the rehearsals we need to do for our show.
On Friday we had a special Shabbat party with Rabbi Elbaz and the fifth graders. This time the sixth graders came to perform a short play they wrote about the parsha. It was fantastic! The children really enjoyed seeing the story of Yaakov and Eisav come to life. It is also amazing how many beautiful songs both classes know thanks to Rabbi Elbaz's hard work.
I hope your child shared the parsha with you . Please remember to sign it so I know he/she did.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Shalom Dear Third Grade Parents,
We sure had a busy week! In Chumash we had our test on the first nine psukim in perek 24 including a Rashi we learned. I should have the tests back by the end of this week. We continued our study of the laws and story of Chanuka. You can ask your third grader the following: When does Chanuka start? Why do we celebrate it- what are the 2 miracles that happened? Where do we put the chanukia? What is the difference between a Chanukia and an Menorah? How do we light the Chanukia? What did Beit Shammai say? What did Beit Hillel say? Who do we go by and how can we remember it? We will continue with more laws this week.We use different games to help us remember the phrases for both subjects of Chanuka and Chumash like charades, pictionary and , of course, dramatic readings in Chumash. We were also busy learning the songs for our show with hand motions and movement. The theme of our presentation will be : "Bayamim HaHem, Bazman Hazeh" (In those days and in the present time). We will continue our study of perek 24 this week with some new psukim telling us of Eliezer's trip to Haran to find a wife for Yitzchak and of his request for a sign from Hashem so he knows who the right girl for Yitzchak is. However, we will be focusing more this week on completing our Chanuka packet and rehearsing for our Chanuka show. Please remember it is next week Wed. at 9:30.
We also reviewed and completed a packet on the techiliot (prefixes) in Chumash. This helps the children be able to identify the 'shoresh" (root) more easily. There will be a quiz on the 'techiliot' this Thursday. They all seem to remember them quite well, so I don't anticipate any problems. However, review of the techiliot packet is strongly recommended.
We had a lovely Shabbat party with Rabbi Elbaz on Friday. The children know so many songs (thank you Rabbi Elbaz!) and heard a wonderful story from Rabbi Hauser.
I hope your child shared the parsha with you . Please remember to sign it so I know you did.
Thank you for your cooperation!

grade 3/ test reminder for dec. 8th
Just a reminder that we are having a Chumash test this Thurs. 12-8 on perek 24 psukim 1-9 including the Rashi on pasuk aleph on : Berach Hashem Et Avraham Bakol. There are 3 sheets which review the material and one of those sheets is the list of vocabulary words. The other one is the Rashi worksheet we completed today and the third is the sample review questions we did today. Your child should have all 3 in his /her planner. They should slowly review a few psukim tonight and the rest tomorrow with these worksheets as a guide as to what to focus on.

Shalom Dear Second Grade Parents,
What a busy week we had in Kita Bet!In Chumash we are presently working on psukim 1-5 in perek 12 in Parshat Lech Lecha. We are working on accuracy of reading, fluidity, and basic comprehension with emphasis on certain words and word families. The children are using the Tal Am workbook for comprehension and also the Lehavin U'Lehaskil workbooks for learning to find the shoresh (root) of a word and identifying word families. We are presently working on the "techilit (prefix) of words. We have learned what a "po-al" (verb) is and a "shem etsem" (noun). We also learned to identify a word as feminine , masculine, singular or plural. Chanuka is fast approaching and we have begun our study of the Chanuka story. The children will work on two different packets, one on the story of Chanuka which they will read and illustrate and the other on the laws and customs of Chanuka. Please let me know asap if your child will not be at school for our Chanuka show on Dec. 21 , so that I can plan accordingly. Please don't forget to do Kebaba with your child. This week's Shabbat pary we had a special guest. Mr. Noam Even accompanied Rabbi Elbaz with his guitar and together they led the second and fifth graders in beautiful Shabbat songs. It was amazing! Thank you to Mr. Noam Even for giving us of his valuable time. I hope your child shared what he/she learned with you about this week's parsha. Please sign the parsha page and return so I know they did.Thank you for your cooperation! Have a wonderful week!
