5th grade Judaic newsletter / May 10th

B”H

                   MORAH ROBIN’S 5th Grade NEWSLETTER/ MAY 10TH

Another busy week was had in Kita Heh. In Chumash we had our test on perek 45 and those tests were returned on Thursday and should be reviewed and signed. We also continue to progress in Chumash and are learning about Yaakov’s imminent arrival in Egypt at Paro’s and , of course, Yosef’s invitation. You can ask your student what did Paro send to Yaakov and why did he “command” Yosef to send it? What do we learn about Yosef from this? What interesting fact did we learn about “agalot” ( wagons) in those days? Why did Yosef give 5 more sets of fancy clothing to Binyamin ? We will continue and complete Parshat Vayigash next week and then begin Parshat Vayechi , which will conclude Sefer Bereisheet. How exciting!!

In Navi we began perek 8 and are learning about the upcoming battle between Gideon Ben Yoash and the Midyanim. You can ask your student to explain to you exactly how his warriors were chosen for this battle. The answer will surprise you. ( hints: 22,000, 10,000, and finally 300 !)

In Chagim we nearly completed our study of the laws of the Omer, Lag B’Omer and Shavuot packet and will have our test on this packet on May 14th .

Warning: Spoiler Alert for Mother’s Day!! This part to be read only on Sunday, or after you get your present!!

We also worked on a special Mother’s Day project which we hope you will enjoy. Yes, every day is Mother’s Day according to the Torah, but we thought it would be nice to give Mother’s Day a Judaic angle and compare our dear mothers to our amazing matriarchs and see what beautiful middot ( virtues) they share. We hope you will cherish the cards made so very lovingly by your children.

We also continue to “train” for our “milathon”. So far we have reviewed 6 pages of Chumash vocab. in our special “milathon” pages. Please encourage your child to be a contestant in our Milathon which will be the last week of school. To prepare they need to just review these special pages since the words will be chosen from them.

Please encourage your child to share this week’s D’var Torah with you and return signed on Monday. There won’t be a newsletter next week due to the short week.

Wishing you a Chag Shavuot Sameach in advance and a Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Robin
