Robin’s Weekly Update/ Feb. 15th
We had such
a busy week in our Judaics class! In Chumash we were tested on the last perek
in Parshat Mikeitz and those tests have gone home. Please make sure to see them
and sign them, so I know you are aware of your child’s score. Like I said in a
previous email, returning signed tests/quizzes are mandatory this quarter and
not to do so will result in losing points towards the final grade. We began
Parshat VaYigash by using drama. As you can see from the pictures, our students
were asked to “walk in Yehuda’s sandals” for a bit and think what he would have
said to Yosef to convince him to let Binyamin go free. This we did before even
starting the new parsha so the students had to think about it and then we
compared their answers with what actually did happen as we learned these new
psukim. I can tell you they enjoyed it very much and got to show their acting
abilities, once again. In Navi we are learning perek vav about the new Shofet:
Gideon Ben Yoash. Why don’t you ask your Navi learner the following questions
to see how well he/she was paying attention:
What shevet
is Gideon from?
Who was the
enemy this time ? What were they doing to Bnei Yisrael?
Were they
many or few and how do we know?
What was the spiritual situation like then and how do we know this?
What was the spiritual situation like then and how do we know this?
Who came to
see Gideon and where did he find him?
Why was
Gideon there?
What
greeting does this “visitor” give Gideon?
What is
Gideon’s answer?
In Chagim we
are busy learning about Purim and the story of the Megila with many interesting
insights like: Why does it not say “King” Ahashverosh in the first pasuk? Who
was Vashti ( daughter of… granddaughter of…)?
Why does it say suddenly “Hamalka Vashti” and not “Vashti Hamalka”?
We will
continue our study of the Megila next week and also get a new packet of dinim
(laws) connected to Purim, as well.
Please make
sure to have your child share this week’s D’var Torah with you and return
signed, so I know they did.
Please
remember that this coming Friday your child should come in costume as we are
having our own Costume Contest in addition to other festivities.
In our
Judaic class we don’t always wait for Purim to put on costumes. Here are some
of our actors /actresses acting out the scene between Yehuda and Yosef:
And we don’t
have to wait for Purim to talk about kings and queens. Here are our own king
and queen of the Middah of the Month of “Erech Apayim” ( not getting angry/
impatient, etc…) ! Avigail Federovsky and Abe Schulman.. Kol HaKavod!!
We can’t
wait to see who will earn the honor this coming month for the new quality we
are working on in the spirit of Chodesh Adar: “Sameach B’chelko” ( being happy
with what you have, happy in general, easy going…..)
Have a
wonderful Shabbat!
Shabbat
Shalom,
Morah Robin
