ROBIN’S NEWSLETTER / APRIL 19TH
We had a very busy week in Kita Heh. The week began with Yom
HaZikaron ( Israel’s Memorial Day) and a very moving ceremony delivered by the
High School students. The next day we celebrated Yom Ha’atsmaut with special
fun activities: a visit to the “Wax Museum” where we met famous Israeli personalities, a Bingo game
of facts on Israel, an art project and Israeli cooking. Despite all the special
events, we still got a lot of our curriculum done. In Chumash we began to work
with new vocabulary from the next psukim we will be learning: puskim 11-18 in
perek 45. I will be posting new flashcards on these psukim and will send and
post the link when they are ready. Speaking of vocabulary we have started an
exciting new project in our Chumash class called the “Milathon”. Each week we
review Chumash vocabulary from the beginning of the year and see how much we
remember. At the end of the year , ( which is quickly approaching), we will
have a “Milathon” and have our students compete to see who recalls the most
words. Reviewing the different sheets is mandatory and we do it in class,
however, the contest is not obligatory , but I explained to the students that
it is fun to challenge themselves and they should all try to enter and be in
the final competition. If someone really does not want to though, they can
support a different contestant, help them train and cheer for them. Meanwhile
the students are quite surprised at how many phrases they do remember, even if
they were taught several months ago. It would be great if you encouraged your
child to “train” for this. We have reviewed 3 sheets so far, each with 15
phrases. The words/phrases for the Milathon will be taken ONLY from the special
sheets we review in class.
We had fun reviewing for our Navi test, which we had this
week, by playing a Jeopardy game which reviewed the important parts of the
perek. I have posted the link on my blog so your child could use it for review
, as well.
We will be starting perek 7 in Shoftim and learn about the war led by Gideon Ben
Yoash against Midyan. The children are now working on clay displays of one
scene from a shofet’s life that they chose. Please remind your student that the
written part of this project, the report on the shofet they chose, is due
Apr. 29th and please no late reports. You will see their
finished projects at the Achievement Fair on May 1st, B”H.
This Friday, which is a 4 pm dismissal, we will resume our
Shabbat parties led by Rabbi Elbaz. Please ask your student to share their
D’var Torah with you and return the parsha sheet signed , so I know they did.
Next week the fifth graders have their Achievement Tests and
will have Judaic studies only on Tues and Thurs. Even so, we will try to
get as much work done as we possible. However, I will not be sending
home or emailing a newsletter next week.
Have a wonderful Shabbat,
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin
