B”H

                                    MORAH ROBIN’S JUDAIC NEWSLETTER/ OCT. 19TH

Wow! Our first full week of school after all the holidays certainly sped by. To say we were busy in our second grade Judaic class is an understatement. Let’s see what special activities we did and what we learned.

In Chumash we continued learning about the Creation and learned about day 4. Please ask your second grader what Hashem created? ( the sun, moon, and stars). (Actually they were created on day one ,but not put into place till day 4.) We are also in the middle of practicing a small skit on a beautiful midrash ( story) about the sun and the moon. When we read pasuk 16 we saw that it says in the Torah: Hashem created 2 big “lights”. But we know that the moon is much smaller than the sun, so what happened? Well, that is where the midrash comes in. The children, in their groups,  were given a skit on the story which they are starting to practice. We will work more on it next week and it will probably come home for practice, so please have your child read for you. It can count as Kebaba. The team that does the best performance will perform for another class. However, if all the teams do well, which is what it looks like, then they will all get a chance to perform for other classes. You can ask your child to tell you the midrash.  We also learned about day 5 . You can ask your child what Hashem created .  We were also busy with our “ Briah ( Creation) Albums” and are making every effort to put forth our best work.

In order to eventually become great Chumash detectives ( Chumash “balash”), we are learning important skills in identifying words. We know when a word is “zachar”, nekeiva”, rabim or “rabot” ( masc. sing., fem. sing., masc. plural, fem.plural). We were busy working in our Lehavin U’Lehaskil workbooks.

In order for us to retain our new vocabulary , we played a “Human Matching Game” this week with the words we will be quizzed on this Friday. Instead of matching up the words on the board, the children had to find their match by walking around and silently looking for their “match.” They abided beautifully by the rules and everyone found their “match.”

At last week’s Shabbat party, Rabbi Elbaz brought a group of his sixth graders who performed a short skit on last week’s parsha. The children really enjoyed it. This week we will have our usual Shabbat party led by Rabbi Elbaz with beautiful songs and also see the story of the parsha on a special video. In addition please remember to ask your child to share the D’var Torah  about the parsha  with you.

We will soon need shoe boxes for a new project, so please send one in when you can. Thank you!

As always please contact me with any concerns or questions you may have.

Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin and Morah Malca
