Robin’s Judaic Newsletter/ Oct. 26th
Whoa! We
need to slow down in Kita Heh! We accomplished a lot this week in our Judaic
classroom. For starters in Chumash we completed our study of perek 41, all 57
psukim!! Our test is this coming Monday
, the 29th , and the students have their packets for focus and
study plus a separate “guideline” to let them know which psukim they need to
understand well. It will be open book with the Chumash, so while they don’t
need to memorize, they do need to make sure they can read , comprehend and
navigate the psukim well. To enrich our study we had some fun this week with
the ancient Egptian writing of hieroglyphics. We wrote Yosef’s Egyptian name:
Tsofnat Paaneach in hieroglyphics and made him an ID card or desk tag for his
“new promotion” . Some children chose to
make him a new “Egyptian passport”. Their work will soon grace our fifth grade
bulletin board. Right now you can enjoy seeing another Chumash project being
displayed: Pharaoh’s “memo” to his staff and country about Yosef’s new
important position on Pharaoh’s own “stationery!” This was an opportunity for
our students to use some new Chumash vocabulary in a meaningful and fun way.
Please be sure to take a look before I take them down and put up our hieroglyphics.
To help with the retention of the many Chumash phrases we learn, our fifth
graders are presently working on a new project: Crazy Connection posters. So please if you have any unneeded
magazines lying about, we could use them to search for pictures for this
project.
This month’s
Middah ( virtue) of the Month is : “zerizut” and so far we have been witnessing
many examples of children getting on task quickly, picking up errant papers
without even being told, and volunteering to help out quickly. I think it will
be hard
to choose the “melech” and “malca” for this month!
This week we
also had our auditions for our Chanuka play. Yes, before we know it, it will be
time to light those chanukiot! I want you to know that we have a hugely
talented group of students and casting for this play will be easy since I know
that whatever part a child gets, he/she will do a great job. More details about
this event will follow as we get closer to Chanuka.
Please have
your child share the D’var Torah with you and return signed. Today we began a
movie about Avraham instead of our usual Shabbat party. It is based on the
midrashim about Avraham as a young boy. We will continue it next week.
Please
contact me with any concerns or questions.
Shabbat
Shalom!
