Judaic newsletter for Grade Five/ Sept. 7th

B"H
Shalom Fifth Grade Parents,
We had a busy week in Kita Heh. In Chumash: we are in the middle of perek 41 and worked on psukim 8-15. The Chumash test went home last week. I would like to check that all parents signed their child's test, so I know you saw it. Please ask your child for it , if you have not yet seen it.  This coming week we will continue and progress till pasuk 27.
We also learned an interesting Rashi on pasuk 8 and even acted it out. We will continue to use drama in our classroom as this is a wonderful way to internalize the material and use the Chumash phrases meaningfully. Our children are really great actors and actresses!
This coming week we will start 'Yomano shel Yosef" ( Yosef's diary) , which will be an ongoing project.
In Navi: we continued our study of perek aleph in Sefer Shoftim. We learned that Calev conquered Hevron a.k.a. Kiryat Arba and the reasons for that city's name. We also learned that he offered his daughter , Achsa, to the warrior who would conquer the city of Dvir , a.k.a. Kiryat Sefer. Otniel Ben Knaz , his younger brother, was successful and got Achsa as his wife. We understood that only a real tzadik could be successful and Calev was ensuring that his daughter would have a very righteous husband. We also admired Achsa for asking her father for fertile land when she discovered that the original land he gave her was dry. She modestly approached her father and asked him to help them by giving them land near water. This coming week we will make bookmarks with the words that keep repeating themselves in Sefer Shoftim to help us remember them.
In Dinim: We continued our study of our Elul/Rosh Hashana packet and will be completing it this week. A test on the packet will be announced soon ( to be given later next week).
In Parsha I hope your student shared this week's parsha with you and that it comes back signed and ready to hang in our Yofi Shel Parsha corner.
We had a lovely Oneg Shabbat with Rabbi Elbaz, who also taught the students some new songs.
Liat Shaked, the young shlicha, prepared an activity for the students on Thursday and will be coming in to our classroom every other week with more to share about life in Israel.
That's all for now....
Shavua Tov!
Morah Robin
