Morah Robin's fifth grade newsletter for Sept. 28th

B"H

                                    Morah Robin's Judaic Newsletter/ Sept. 28th

Shalom Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope you had a meaningful Yom Kippur and although these past two weeks were not complete ones, we did manage to get a lot done in our fifth grade Judaic classroom.

After we learned about Rosh Hashana and completed our packet which I hope your fifth grader shared with you , the children were tested. That test went home last week. Please make sure you saw your student's test. It should be signed and returned so I can mark that you saw it in my grade book. We have been very busy learning about Yom Kippur and  now Succot in our new Chagim packet. We completed our study of Yom Kippur, but are still learning about Succot. We may need to continue just a bit on Wed. of Chol HaMoed in order to complete the information in our new packet. Once we are done I will post a test date for the dinim on the Yom Kippur and Succot  packet. I am trying not to give any tests, quizzes or even much homework during these weeks of holidays. I know how busy our households are just preparing for these beautiful and meaningful holidays and told the children that when they don't have h.w. from me they should be helping at home. Since during Succot it is actually a mitzvah to be happy, we are very excited that we are going to have our own "Succabiah" during Succot! The class is divided into 2 teams: Lulavim and Etrogim and they will be competing in different categories. Tomorrow we will devote some time to our first competition, this time in sports. We will continue on Wed. and Fri. of next week, B"H, while Thurs. will be a more "normal" learning day.

I must congratulate our very first Melech ( king) and Malca ( queen) of Elul's Middah of the Month: Savlanut ( patience) and they are…….( drum roll please..)

Our Melech is: Daniel Margolin

Our Malca is: Shylee Delman

Yishar Koach to them both!!

Each month as I wrote in a previous newsletter, we work on a different Middah (virtue). Last month's was : Patience. During the month we watch the students and see who is progressing the most in that important middah. I hope we have many "kings" and "queens" in future months, to crown. This month's ( Tishrei) middah is : "seder v'nikayon" ( organization and cleanliness) . This means our desks and areas are spotless and organized and we have the material we need for class each day. Right now we have many candidates for the new "kings" and "queens". I will let you know who our finalists are at the end of this month.  I took pictures of Shylee and Daniel with crowns and all, but am having trouble posting them here. I will keep trying and hopefully their pictures will be here soon.

With all we are learning about the chagim , we still had time to start our Yosef diaries. These beautiful projects are an ongoing activity that when completed will be part of our Achievement Fair presentation. This also counts like 2 tests and I am encouraging the children to put much effort and thought into their work. This is a good way for them to reflect on what we learn in Chumash and to use the new Chumash vocabulary in a meaningful way.

Today your child will have another D'var Torah to share. Please encourage them and return signed and decorated to hang in our Yofi Shel Parsha corner.

Wishing you a very happy and healthy Succot!

Chag Sameah and Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Robin
