B"H
Shalom Fifth Grade Parents,
We had a busy week in Kita Heh. In Chumash we are working on psukim 14-25 in perek 41 in Parashat Mikeitz. Yosef is brought before Paro and is told the dreams. We noticed a few differences in Paro's version of his dreams and discussed the reasons behind them. We also like acting out the different scenes and Rashi's we are learning and will continue to do so when we have the time. We will be having a test in Chumash on psukim 8-25 ( maybe a bit more, not sure yet), on Sept. 25th. It will include the Rashi's we learned, too. I will give the children more info. about the test as we get closer to the date. We also like to do "crazy connections" to help us remember the special Chumash vocabulary. These are pictures we find in magazines, advertisements, and newspapers that remind us of some vocabulary word or phrase we have learned in Chumash ( or Navi, too!).
In Navi we continue learning about the shevatim conquering their territories in Eretz Canaan. We learned about Otniel Ben Knaz and his conquest of Dvir and marriage to Achsa, the daughter of Calev. We also learned about the Keini ( descendants of Yitro), and how they moved from Yericho to Arad, so as not to get in the way of Yehuda conquering his territory. We are now learning about the fascinating story of Beit Yosef ( Efraim and Menashe) who conquer the city of Beit - E-l , or Luz , as it was called. Once we finish learning about it, make sure your student tells you the story , it is very interesting!
In Dinim we completed our study of Elul and Rosh Hashana. Your child will be bringing home their packets with the beautiful covers. We will have our test on the packet on Sept. 20th, so please make sure they don't misplace the packets so they can study. We will have a review lesson right after Rosh Hashana. They also have special New Year cards they made for their family members. Please have a look at their wonderful work!
On Friday we will have a special practice Rosh Hashana "seder" and eat different symbolic foods to ensure a great new year. We will also learn about this week's parasha. Please encourage them to share it with you and return the page signed next week.
Reminder: Test dates: Sept. 20th Rosh Hashana/Elul packet test
Sept. 25th: Chumash test from pasuk 8-25, more exact info on what to focus on will be delivered to the students next week.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Wishing you all a happy , healthy, and sweet New Year!
Shana Tova U'metuka!
Shabbat Shalom,
Morah Robin
