Shalom
Second Grade Parents,
We had an
exciting and busy week in Kita Bet. We
learned a lot about Rosh Hashana and completed our Chagim ( holiday) packet. It
will be coming home with your child, so please be sure to take a look and
review it with your student. I have enclosed a letter for you to sign after you
view your child’s packet, so I know you saw it. Here are some questions you can
ask your second grader:
1/When is
Rosh Hashana and how many days do we celebrate? ( aleph and bet of Tishrei and
for 2 days)
2/ Why is
Rosh Hashana called this? ( b/c it is the head ( rosh) of the year and it is
the first month b/c Hashem created Adam on erev Rosh Hashana.
3/ What is
the secret “recipe” for a good year? ( Teshuva, Tefila , and Tsedaka)
4/ How do we
do Teshuva? ( first we realize and understand that we did something wrong, then
we say we are sorry, and finally we really never do it again!)
5/ How many
sounds of the shofar do we hear on Rosh Hashana?( 100)
6/ Why do we
blow the shofar? ( to wake us up to do teshuva)
7/ What
bracha do we make on hearing the shofar? ( “lishmoa kol shofar”)
8/ What does
that mean? ( to hear the sound of the shofar)
9/ Name some
foods we eat on Rosh Hashana and why?
10/ What is
the first month of the year? ( Tishrei) ,the last month (Elul) and see if you
can say all the months in order.
We were also
busy coloring our Rosh Hashana covers ( of the packet) and making beautiful New
Year’s cards. These cards are in the Take Home Folders. ( the beehives).
We forgot to
tell you that last week we started popping balloons. The children earn stickers
in different categories: behavior, participation, neatness and parsha. When
they accrue 10 they get to pop a balloon. In the balloon is a note that gives
them either a privilege or a prize. We had our first poppers last Friday and should
have some more poppers this Friday , ( I am writing this on Wed.). Another way
a child can be encouraged in making good choices is with our tickets. When we
notice a child doing his/her work properly, waiting patiently for a turn,
showing derech eretz, etc, they get a ticket. Ten tickets can be used to “shop”
in my Treasure box. We prefer to use positive reinforcements with our students
in the hope that these good behaviors will become good habits that eventually
will not need any kind of outside reinforcement ( whether privilege or prize) ,
but will come as second nature to our kids.
On Friday we
will again learn the week’s parsha , so please encourage your child to share it
with you. They can return them signed and decorated after Rosh Hashana for our
beautiful Parsha corner, and indeed, it is beautiful. The children are
investing much effort in making their parsha pages outstanding. Thank you for
encouraging them.
I would like
to take this opportunity to wish all our Second Grade families a wonderful,
happy , healthy and very sweet New Year!
A Shana Tova
U’Metuka!
Shabbat
Shalom,
Morah Robin
and Morah Malka
